Movie Quote Meme

Written by Chris C on March 6th, 2008

theater01It is rare that I am tagged for a meme which is a good thing because most of them are pretty stupid and worthless. If I wanted to tell everything five secrets about me I would have already. Do you really want to know that I don’t trim my toenails often?

Rickey from Riding with Rickey tagged me for a meme the other day that was fun at least. Take a list of 15 of your favorite movies and make a list of 15 quotes from them courtesy of IMDB. Then post the list for the readers to guess what film the quotes are from.

Like Rickey said in his meme, don’t be unscrupulous bastards and bitches and Google the quotes. Use your frigging mind for a change. I know, I’m asking a lot. Humor me.

So here is my list. I’ll update with the guesses, who got them, and what-not as we go along.

1. “We’re wanted men. I have the death sentence on twelve systems.” Star Wars-Frogster

2. “Lightening. Fire. Power of God or something. “ Raiders of the Lost Ark- Jeff

3. “That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory.” Shawshank Redemption- Bee

4. “That is the sound of inevitability” Matrix I- Renal Failure

5. “Why, you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf-herder.” Empire Strikes Back- Frogster

6. “He’s more machine now than man; twisted and evil.” Return of the Jedi- Renal Failure

7. “I bet she gives great helmet.” Spaceballs-Damon

8. ” That rug really tied the room together.” Big Lebowski-Damon

9. “But I… I… I think you’re the fucking Antichrist.” Donnie Darko- Renal Failure

10. “Madness! Madness!”

11. “flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.” Airplane- Renal Failure

12. “Can you dig it?”

13. “Hey Yankees… you can take your apology and your trophy and shove ‘em straight up your ass!” Bad News Bears(original version)-Damon

14. “How do you shoot the devil in the back? What if you miss?” Usual Suspects- Renal Failure

15. “It’s in your nature to destroy yourselves.” Terminator II- Frogster

Oh, I can’t do this. Almost every movie is dubbed into Spanish here, so none of those lines sounds even remotely familiar. Even if I translated them, it probably wouldn’t work because the dubbed version is almost always entirely different from the original. For instance, Bart Simpson in Spanish says “Multiplicate por cero” (multiply yourself by zero) instead of “Eat my shorts.”

I recognize #2 from Raiders of the Lost Ark and #12 sounds like a quote from Shaft, but you’re probably too young for that reference so it may be from something else.

Jeff got #2 which was Raiders of the Lost Ark. #12 is not Grease nor Shaft. Like to note three movies as old or older then Shaft on this list by the way Jeff :)

#10 is the classic war movie ‘Bridge On the River Kwai’. If you love war films and haven’t seen this one, you truly aren’t really as hardcore as you think.

#12 is the 70’s cult classic ‘The Warriors’. I recently did a review for the film for The Roller Blog but Katy hasn’t gotten around to getting it posted yet.

I read “Kwai” but I never saw the movie. I thought the book was OK, but the movie does get great reviews. I’ll have to check it out. And “Warriors.” Long time ago. All I remember is the clinking bottles.
