Web Designer Stole My Rick Astley Virus Bit

So I was caught by surprise reading the news today about The Rick Astley Virus:

“A young Australian web designer has become the first person to create a virus for Apple’s wildly popular iPhone.

The worm, known as Ikee, changes the device’s wallpaper to a picture of ’80s singer Rick Astley with the words “Ikee is never gonna give you up” — a reference to Astley’s biggest chart hit — before trying to spread to other devices. “

What?! Seriously?!

That’s MY bit! I came up with the idea as a joke in a post in March 2008 about Jesus needing some new material:

Everyone has cell phones that play videos these days. On Sunday morning you hack into everyone’s phones and set the call volume to the max setting as well as disable the ability to hang up or turn them off.

Then you call everyone and send them this video: (the rickroll video)

Worse yet, the rickroll gag is so last week. This was the Macy’s Day Parade last Thanksgiving:

The shark has been jumped.

And this is not the first time I’ve been creatively scraped either.

Remember the Taco Bell commercial where the guy goes around collecting pennies from the ‘take a penny’ trays until he has enough to buy some kind of taco burrito flaming enchilada with sauce so hot it breaks your sweat glands?

Yeah mine:

“Go around to every store that has a take a penny/leave a penny tray and exercise your right to the taking part. I’d recommend 10-15 cents per store. There are a million retail locations that have the damn things. Before you know it, you’ll be swimming in pennies. Better bring a wheelbarrow!”

Of course I didn’t suggest buying fast food and I’m not entirely sure every Taco Bell worker would be so cheery about counting 89 pennies.

The good news I guess is that there is someone in the advertising business and a web designer who read my blog as well as rip off my ideas.

But it could also be bad news. The web designer might actually be a crazed hacker who gets pissed off after reading this and sends a massive DOS attack my way.

At least it’s not a rickroll.
