Idetrorce is a commenting Tour De Force. Ok, well maybe not on the level of a Yngwie Malmsteen or anything…

More like that guy from Warrant.

Like a Paris Hilton sex video, Idetrorce is sweeping the comment sections of blogs and websites with the same line:
“very interesting, but I don’t agree with you”
Idetrorce
Already he has appeared on Radioactive Liberty, Plooptionary, and has a newly-created user profile on Snowboard Magazine. People like her are starting to notice the mass commenting of Idetrorce.
One of the more interesting ones is on Slash Films about Star Wars Christmas Cards. A commenter writes just before Idetrorce’s standard reply:
“Jurassic Park wasn’t a Lucasfilm movie.”
As I write this I have just gotten word there has been a recent Idetrorce sighting.

Who is Idetrorce? Is he real?

Fair question Angry Angel. No I am not Idetrorce.
Originally I was going to talk about that but it didn’t fit in the post right. This morning I checked my email and on one of the sites I am subscribed to as far as comments is plooptionary.com where Idetrorce posted a comment.
I thought nothing of it until a few hours later when another comment from our friend showed up at Radioactive Liberty, which I am a contributor of. That was weird I thought, so I googled it and found a bunch of other blogs and sites where Idetrorce was commenting, all the same reply.
The idea for the post was on and no I am not Idetrorce. The reason why this post and the Digg submission shows up in the google search is because I made sure to SEO-up the post a bit.
by H3g3m0n, on December 16 2007 @ 1:41 am
I got one of these today too on my wordpress blog. I had a similar post a few months back with a pot in a another language from an “AnferTuto” posting “Hola faretaste mekodinosad”. That name and phrase return 1000’s of Google results on heaps of different sites. Same kind of weird message, no website link.
More info on my blog here: http://h3g3m0n.wordpress.com/2007/10/02/mekodinosad-spam-sad-dinosaur-the-terrorists/

What I don’t get is the message I got here in the first comment is not Idetrorce because it is missing the name in the comment like the others. Of all places that should have an official Idetrorce comment it should be the blog post that talks about it.
I feel slighted.

He got me too. But then again, so did some guy talking about “Britney Spears vcr pagoda mistletoe” and about 200 other randomly interwoved words.
Here’s MY take on it. If I were writing auto-posting software because I was going to start spamming the universe with garbage posts (Lord knows we could use a couple more of those, right?) it would be nice to know which blog posts were more quickly picked up by Google.
This way, when I have some new site to spam the world about, I can make sure to focus my barrage on those sites which have a high visibility.
In order to figure this out, all the spammer has to do is scan for that phrase and name in Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. and find out which sites to spam to.
I certainly hope those affected sites delete their entries by this “guy”, otherwise the spam storm will likely be coming their way.

Very interesting. He has just commented my blog too, with the same text.
How does he found my blog?…

Since Michigan isn’t near France, maybe…a) It’s a bot / virus b) It’s someoen using TOR / proxy sites c) He travels a lot
I’m going with the bot testing mentioned above.

That was this morning. I ended up deleting it because it didn’t make sense.. then i googled the odd name. Glad to know I’m not alone.. ???

Ha! I just got hit too. What’s the point of spamming if you don’t link it to something? delete!
by SDF_of_BC, on December 16 2007 @ 2:34 pm
I just got the same comment on my LJ: 81.226.255.41
Either it’s a bot, or a very very sad lonely person, or both.
Something else to delete. :/
by Patrick, on December 16 2007 @ 6:48 pm
I just got a message too from “idetrorce” with the same message. It didn’t make any sense in the context so I searched the name. He signed my guestbook with “very interesting, but I don’t agree with you”. haha
by Karen Eaton, on December 16 2007 @ 7:46 pm
Idetrorce just hit me today too. Fortunately, when I hit Askimet’s “recheck for spam” in my comment moderation it identified it as spam.
by ChrisC, on December 16 2007 @ 8:47 pm
Thanks everyone for stopping by and commenting with your thoughts, theories, etc. I’m compiling them together for a follow up post Monday (tommorow).
by Donna B., on December 16 2007 @ 9:38 pm
Does this mean you are ldetrorce? Or is it spam? Anxiously awaiting reply.
by ChrisC, on December 16 2007 @ 9:43 pm
And you get a reply quickly, as I am on here working on tommorow’s post.
Again, I am not Idetrorce. I really wish I came up with the idea, but I simply am the one who broke the story of the commenter.
And since people are onto something like this I couldn’t do it even if I wanted to. It would be like trying to do another ‘Sixth Sense’ or ‘Borat’ or get someone who hasn’t heard of OJ to be on the jury.
by ChrisC, on December 16 2007 @ 10:15 pm
hmm most of the blogs hit are LJ or wordpress. The Wordpress angle could be due to the Bad Behavior plug-in not working right. LJ I don’t know much about. Maybe there is a recent software glitch allowing these kind of spam comments past any filters that are usually blocking them.
Just throwing that out there. My real theory publishes Monday afternoon.

Bizarre. I got spammed by “Idetrorce” on 12/15/2007. This instance was noted as a reply to my final entry upon retiring Dopeless HOPE Fiend. I’m not interested enough yet to pursue any info re: logged IP address. That could change…

What I find funny is how nervous many people got from this idetrorce thing.
by Aphra Behn, on December 18 2007 @ 3:06 am
Mine’s another wordpress blog that got hit. The bot testing idea makes sense to me, though it could be Douglas Adams’ white mice doing fantastically elegant behavioural experiments on human beings to see how we react.
I also got another linkless spam post this weekend:
gdf | s422 at mailinator dot com | IP: 92 dot 112 dot 166 dot 163
fgsdf dfhdf
I had left them in place for the surreality of the thing, but they were so very obviously spam that I googled, and here I am.
Thanks for the commentary.

I got a comment from this person on my blog a few nights ago, too! I marked it off as spam but now I’m not so sure.. you guys think we’re on the verge of an Idetrorce invasion?
There could be sleeper cells all around the world just waiting for the signal.

I too have been bit by the idetrorce creature, who had the temerity to disagree with me on my own blog. I have also been receiving an increasing amount of bogus comments linking to not much of anything.
I think idetrorce is a bored but disagreeable alien entity, sent to earth to teach us the value of junk correspondence.
Clearly, we need to change our thinking on this.
Help align our sphere with the cosmos, sing with me:
“Every Spam is precious
Every Spam is good
Every Spam can be clicked
If you only would.”
A few dozen rounds of that ditty and I think we’ll be ready for enlightenment.
